OFSTED REPORT

Under the new Ofsted Report Card framework, schools are no longer awarded a single overall judgement such as Outstanding or Good. Instead, they are evaluated across a range of individual areas and awarded one of five grades: Exceptional, Strong Standard, Expected Standard, Needs Attention or Urgent Improvement.

It is important for parents to understand that Strong Standard is a highly significant judgement. Ofsted has made clear that Expected Standard already represents a good quality of education and provision that every child should be entitled to receive. A judgement of Strong Standard therefore indicates performance that goes considerably beyond this benchmark, reflecting consistently high-quality practice, excellent outcomes for pupils and a demonstrable positive impact on children's achievement and wellbeing.

Schools graded as Strong Standard are recognised for delivering provision that is consistently effective and enables pupils to thrive academically, socially and personally. This judgement is not awarded routinely and reflects evidence of sustained excellence across the evaluated area. It demonstrates that the school's work is having a substantial and measurable impact on pupils and that high standards are embedded throughout everyday practice.

While Exceptional sits above Strong Standard, Ofsted has emphasised that this category is intended to be rare and reserved for schools whose influence extends beyond their own setting through sector-leading work, national contributions, professional leadership and the sharing of expertise across the education system. As such, a judgement of Strong Standard should be viewed as an outstanding endorsement of the quality of education and care provided within the school itself.

For parents, a Strong Standard judgement provides clear assurance that their child attends a school where teaching, leadership, support and outcomes are consistently of a very high quality. It signifies that the school is not simply meeting expectations but is exceeding them, delivering tangible benefits for pupils and preparing them exceptionally well for future stages of education. Achieving Strong Standard demonstrates that the school's work has been rigorously evaluated against robust evidence and that inspectors have recognised a sustained culture of excellence and strong pupil outcomes.
